High yield or covered call?

High dividend shares

Hold companies that pay large dividends, often banks, miners and telcos in Australia, with franking credits.

Covered call

Sell options over the shares to boost income. You get more income but give up some of the upside when markets rally.

How to use dividend and income ETFs

Income ETFs can form part of the core for investors who need cash flow, such as retirees. A high yield isn’t free: it often means less growth or more concentration in a few sectors, so look at total return, not just the yield.
